There are currently two Indian team camps going on in England. One is, of course, in Southampton, preparing for the fifth and final T20 international against England. With Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir at the helm, India want to avoid a 4-0 bashing and perhaps save from losing the top spot in ICC T20I rankings as well. However, the second group has started to get ready for the crucial one-day international series that follows the T20Is. Rohit Sharma was already training in England; meanwhile, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Gurnoor Brar have reached Edgbaston as well.
As per the Times of India, the second contingent (ODI) has formed up in Edgbaston, the venue for the opening ODI. Some players were already in the country. Virat Kohli, who has moved to London, was training at Lord’s facility for some time. Meanwhile, videos of Rohit training in open nets went viral a few days ago. This is a great news for the Indian team, who are currently down and out with their T20I performance. The more experienced players will turn up for the ODIs, with one eye on the ODI World Cup 2027 as well.
Can Shubman Gill’s India save this horrible England tour?
The leader of the pack, Shubman Gill, has also been in the country for various events. He was seen watching the one-sided Wimbledon semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic after Gill got a Royal Box invite. While he also had local training sessions, apart from getting to witness the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.
He was in tremendous form in the last ODI series. Under Gill, India won its first ODI bilateral series when it hosted Afghanistan for three games. Gill was particularly superb with the bat, scoring 238 runs at an incredible SR of 135.23. He was the Player of the series and would now hope to continue with his superb form.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will also be seen in the ODIs after getting rested from the entire Afghanistan series and also from the T20Is. He was also seen having training individually. Now, however, the team that has assembled at Edgbaston will have a training session perhaps today or tomorrow together. There were some reports that the current Indian coaching staff, that could see a major change soon, was divided to oversee the two Indian camps.
There are as many as eight players who played the T20Is against England that are also part of the ODIs. However, there’s uncertainity on Harshit Rana, who endured a hamstring injrury that ruled him out of the last two T20I matches.
