With just 8 days left before the India vs England ODI series commences on July 14 at Edgbaston, Rohit Sharma has arrived in England. The former India all-format captain hasn’t played any cricket since the India vs Afghanistan series ended on June 20 and has been training in India.
Rohit Sharma starts ODI practice in England
In between the two series, Rohit has been awarded India’s fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri. Now he’ll turn his focus to cricket again. The opener had a good time against Afghanistan on what was his return to ODI cricket after six months.
However, Rohit still found some criticism. Primarily because his strike rate wasn’t as expressive when compared to Shubman Gill or Ishan Kishan. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played a game due to Gill’s absence, smashed a hundred, putting even more pressure on the veteran.
With each passing game and series, there will be even more scrutiny on Rohit. One has to remember the ODI World Cup 2027 is still 15 months away. At 39, there will be questions over his age and fitness. The latter has been a concern in the last few years.
Rohit will want to stamp his authority and end all the debates about his place as the permanent opener. He’s started training and has another week to acclimatise to the conditions in England.
