Jasprit Bumrah had missed the IND vs AFG Test, then the Ireland and England T20Is, and now will be seen in action in an ODI series.

Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah’s workload is carefully managed, and hence missed the Ireland and England T20I series’.. but has been included for the England ODIs. But then, as should be the case, Test cricket remains to be his priority, and the 32-year-old has started his preparation for the India vs Sri Lanka Test series, that is due to begin on August 15.

Bumrah to appear in ODIs after 2023, then in Tests

Before that, he would appear in the three-match series that commences on July 14, in Edgbaston. If India team management do eventually play him, it would be his first ODI since the World Cup 2023 final against Australia.

Nonetheless, on Sunday, Bumrah posted a string of pictures on social media where he can be seen practicing with the SG red cherry. He had last played a Test in November 2025, against South Africa at home; India had lost the series 0-2. Overall, he has played 52 Tests, bagging 234 wickets at an average of 19.79 and a strike-rate of 42.8.

Busy Test schedule ahead for Team India

Jasprit Bumrah was last seen in action in IPL 2026, where his performances were below par. In 13 matches, he could only secure four wickets, where he averaged a mind-boggling 102.50, and the economy rate was at 8.36. Since then, he has been on a cricketing break, only bracing up to come back stronger for the season ahead.

As far as the schedule for the India-Sri Lanka series is concerned, the two-match series will start at Galle International Stadium from August 15. The second Test will start at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23. Thereafter, India will travel to New Zealand for two Tests — in Wellington, and Christchurch.

The Shubman Gill-led team will have to do their bit in the ongoing WTC cycle 2025-27, where they currently lie in the 5th spot with 4 wins and as many losses. Australia and South Africa hold the top 2 spots, and the difference between the others is quite huge. A win in the next two series’ will put India in the fray for top 2.
