IPL 2024: Why Riyan Parag gets Orange Cap when Virat Kohli has same runs

Rajasthan Royals (RR) star Riyan Parag became the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2024 after his unbeaten 54-run knock against MI

Rajasthan Royals star Riyan Parag has been in stellar form so far in IPL 2024. Parag became the Orange Cap holder after his unbeaten 54-run knock against Mumbai Indians on Monday. Despite being tied with RCB’s Virat Kohli for the most runs made in IPL 2024 (181 runs), Parag is the Orange Cap holder.

Why Parag holds Orange Cap despite having same runs as Virat Kohli

A higher strike rate puts Riyan Parag ahead of Virat Kohli in the Orange Cap leaderboard. The Rajasthan Royals star has a strike rate of 160.17. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli – on the 2nd position – has a strike rate of 141.40. Both batters have scored two half-centuries so far in the tournament. However, Parag trumps Kohli in terms of sixes hit so far, with 12 to his name while the latter has smashed only 7 sixes so far.

What Riyan Parag has to say about his knock

Rajasthan Royals have become the second team after KKR to win away from home. And it was a win of authority for RR as they beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets with 27 balls to spare. With that, RR reclaim top spot in the points table.

For 3-4 years I haven’t performed well (in the IPL.) When the performances are not coming, you get back to the drawing board. I practised really hard, I have practised these kind of scenarios. Dad likes to watch everything from home, he likes to analyse everything, but my mom is here,” Riyan Parag said after the match.
