IPL 2024 to stay in India, assures IPL chairman Arun Dhumal

BCCI is still waiting for the Lok Sabha Election dates to confirm the IPL 2024 Schedule is as dates are likely to clash.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has assured that IPL 2024 will not be moved out of India. With Lok Sabha Elections 2024 dates clashing with IPL, there was speculation that a part of IPL would be played outside India. However, BCCI will keep the entire tournament in India. However, the Indian board is waiting for the poll dates to confirm the IPL 2024 Schedule.

“We will work with the Indian government, agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way,” Arun Dhumal told IANS.

IPL 2024 Schedule

IPL 2024 is expected to begin on March 22 but Arun Dhumal refused to reveal the start date.

“It will most likely start from March end… and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government,” Dhumal added.

The reason why BCCI is still waiting for the Election Commission of India to announce the dates is local police protection.

Latest on IPL

The state police provides protection for IPL matches in stadiums. But as they will be busy with election duties, they will be unavailable for IPL duty. Hence, BCCI needs to plan carefully. No IPL match on Election Day or a day before and after.

However, the problem is that India have at least seven phases of elections. Hence, it is difficult to predict which city will go for poll on an IPL match day, a day before or a day after. But that’s not all. The Prime Minister or any cabinet minister going for a rally needs a major security blanket. Hence, police protection may not be available if the IPL 2024 match coincides.
