Jay Shah non committal on repealing IPL Impact Player rule despite negative feedback

Jay Shah has refused to rule out the non-continuation of the Impact player rule from next season, saying the fate of the rule will be decided after a chat with the franchises.

The impact player rule in the ongoing IPL 2024 has attracted a lot of controversy. The rule allows an extra player to be fielded by every team. Various cricketers have come out to speak against the rule, saying it has made the sport a batter’s game and has diminished the role of the all-rounders. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has supported the rule, saying it allows two extra Indian players to take part in the game.

Shah, during the conversation revealed that the BCCI will soon put out an advertisement for a new Indian coach as Rahul Dravid’s term moves towards the end. He also divulged that Hardik Pandya has agreed to play domestic white-ball cricket.

Following the commencement of play, the captains of the two teams may designate any one of these five replacements to take the place of a starting player during any of the game’s natural breaks. These can occur at the beginning of an innings, the conclusion of an over, the removal of a wicket, or the retirement of a batter.
