Hardik Pandya: How Indian fans shot in their own feet ahead of T20 World Cup

Indian Cricket Team fans shoot themselves in foot for heckling Hardik Pandya in IPL 2024 ahead of T20 World Cup

The India Cricket Team fans might have made a huge blunder. Favouring franchise cricket support over National Team duties might just come to bit them in the back. The incessant trolling has resulted in Hardik Pandya to lose his form and mental health. Who will suffer the most? Not Mumbai Indians but the Indian Cricket Team.

Mumbai Indians are virtually knocked out of the tournament and are therefore playing for pride. But the damage has been done. While Hardik Pandya is slowly recovering, it is a major blow for the Indian Cricket Team.

Indian Fans to be Blamed!

Ever since Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya has the new skipper of the team, there has been constant trolling against Hardik. Things turned south when Hardik was constantly booed by his own crowd at Wankhede. Be it home or away, he was incessantly trolled by the fans.

Fans often drew comparison with him to Rohit Sharma, calling him vile names. Naturally, these things take toll on the mental health of a person. Every run conceded or mis-field he was booed by his own fans at his own ground. His fault – he was named the new captain of Mumbai Indians.

Naturally, Hardik’s game and form dropped. He tried to play some recovery innings, much to the please the crowd, but eventually his team suffered. With even his own players now listening to him, Hardik Pandya stared down to the bottom of the barrel as his mental health went for a toss.

T20 World Cup on the Horizon!

But ‘the show must go on’. Save Hardik Pandya, India doesn’t have a single pacer all-rounder. Shivam Dube was a candidate, but he has been used as an impact player by CSK. So naturally, Hardik Pandya gets his chance in the team and he also dons the role of the vice captain.

Now, IPL has always been a good hunting ground for Pandya. Back in 2022 he switched sides to join Gujrat Titans and went on to lift the trophy with them in their maiden season. Last year, i.e in 2023, he reached the finals and eventually lost out to CSK. So from playing in back to back 2 finals to languishing at the bottom of IPL 2024 Points Table sums up his journey so far.

With T20 World Cup less than month away, should Hardik’s poor form continue, the worst sufferers will be the Indian team and the Indian fans. The Men in Blue will be desperate to break their 11-year ICC trophy jinx and Hardik Pandya will surely play a big role if India go on to lift the silverware this time.
