‘Experience matters’, Chawla backs Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma for T20 WC 2024

Of the 23 T20I matches the India cricket team played in 2023, Kohli and Rohit featured in none.

With the IND vs SA Test series ending in a draw, the whole focus shifts to T20 cricket. Despite the India cricket team failing to mount the Final Frontier, senior statesmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma showed their experience and skills. With all eyes set on the T20 World Cup 2024, everyone’s wondering whether the two modern greats of the game will play in the event.

Former cricketer and World Cup winner Piyush Chawla has given his two cents on whether playing the duo will help India win the T20 World Cup 2024.

Talking with Star Sports, Chawla stated that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not carry any baggage from their past failures, and their experience will come to the forefront when the Indian cricket team needs it the most.

“You can look at it differently as well, because Kohli and Rohit must be thinking the other way. They want to do something special to really win the World Cup. You don’t think like there is baggage or something because once you are on the field, you don’t think about what happened in the past; you are just living that current situation. If you ask me personally, I would say that experience matters in crunch situations.”

On how the selectors will decide whether to take Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the T20 World Cup 2024, Chawla said:

“The selectors can just wait and watch. You play the waiting game. They have to wait until the time for selection comes. Then they have to make tough calls. And it will be very easy for them to see – Rohit Sharma’s form, Virat Kohli’s form, and everyone else who are competing their form in the IPL.”
