DRS, March 29: Safe to say, Riyan Parag has announced himself on the big stage?

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

As has been the norm so far in the IPL 2024, it is just one performance that takes the centerstage in a particular match, while the others haven’t been as impactful, and yet been important to take a team to a win. It was the case on Thursday as well, where Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Capitals in Jaipur, with the former registering a 12-run victory.

And the architect of that win obviously was, Riyan Parag, who scored 84 from 45 balls. While it is common to see such scores throughout the tournament, but the way the youngster accumulated those runs, is beyond special. He started off rather shakily, getting 26 from 26 initially, but then went on to add 58 in the next 19. So it is only fair, that we start DRS with RR’s next superstar in the making. Here is your dose of Daily Review System for March 29.

Riyan’s Stock on Surge, Nortje’s Nosedives

After starting a bit slowly, Riyan more than made up for the start and went on to get his highest-ever score in the IPL. His innings included seven fours and six sixes. What’s noteworthy is, he smashed 25 of those 84 runs in the last over of the innings, being bowled by Anrich Nortje. Playing his first match of the season, the South African was hit for three fours and two sixes in the innings. Take a bow, Riyan.

From 36/3 to 185/5

Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Khaleel Ahmed were on top for the first few over as only 36 runs were scored in the first 44 balls of the innings. In fact after 10 over mark, RR managed only 58. But from there on Riyan and Ashwin combined well to take their side to a competitive total. Mukesh and Nortje ended up leaking over 12 runs per over.

Ashwin Ploy Works

Even before Riyan Parag could get going, it was R Ashwin who showed the way to struggling Rajasthan. After being promoted in the order, to No. 5, Ashwin came in at a tricky position. But then it was him, whose twin sixes off Nortje, gave the team the much-needed momentum. Eventually, the veteran scored 29 from 19 and played a decent hand, in the context of the match.

Pant Pass or Fail @IPL 2024

Rishabh Pant, playing only in his second competitive match after his accident layoff, scored 28 from 26 and hit two fours and a six. But then, to judge him already would be a folly. While some might say, he has a long way to go, the others can look at it as a certain progress. It’s a call that the fans would have to take, while Rishabh would look to do better in the next match.

Yuzi Chahal, You Beauty

IPL’s most successful bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal literally bowled DC out of the match. Going strong at 97/2 in 11-odd overs, the leg-spinner not only put brakes on scoring, but also picked up crucial wickets of Rishabh Pant and Abhishek Porel. He ended up with figures of 2/19 in his quota of overs. He was just phenomenal.

Avesh Defends 16

With Tristan Stubbs and Axar Chahal on the crease, scoring 16 from the last over doesn’t seem like a tough ask. But Avesh came up with a stunning over, where he gave away only 4 runs, and sealed the deal for his team. His wide yorkers did the trick for Rajasthan as Axar could barely hit the ball cleanly.
