Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

A nerve-jangling T20 international took place at the iconic Chepauk ground between India and England as we saw a last-over finish. Tilak Varma came up with an innings for the ages as he hammered a magnificent 72* to deny England a phenomenal victory. The Indian spin held them once again but the batters lost the plot before Varma rescued the ship. Meanwhile, we saw the Ranji Trophy developments as well, with Shubman Gill hammering a century of his own, albeit in vain. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, hits the nets before his much-awaited Ranji return under former India batting coach. Meanwhile, former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was bestowed with the Padma Shri award. On that note, let us look at top cricketing stories from January 25, Saturday.

Virat Kohli is back in nets!

Virat Kohli, the modern-day great, is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy after an 13-year absence. Scheduled to play for Delhi against the Railways on January 30, Kohli has begun training in Mumbai. A recent viral video showed him signing autographs for fans during practice, where he was coached by former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar, who has guided him in the past. Despite a tough year with only 655 runs at an average of 21.83, Kohli aims to regain his form ahead of the ODI series against England and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Tilak Varma, take a bow!

A Virat Kohli-esque nonetheless for Tilak Varma, who has gone up a notch ever since becoming a mainstay in the Indian team. He hasn’t been dismissed in his last 4 T20I innings, making 318 runs in the period, the most by any batter without being out. The likes of Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and other batters all failed, but the southpaw fulfilled his job at hand. Ravi Bishnoi played his part as well. However, Tilak’s innings was of pure excellence. Tilak even smashed a 150-kmph snorter by Jofra Archer for a six as well en route to his fifty. History by J&K vs Mumbai

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) stunned Mumbai with a five-wicket victory, their first against the 42-time champions in a decade. Rohit Sharma’s much-anticipated return was marred by a lacklustre effort in which he managed only 3 and 28. Mumbai, who had set a target of 205, collapsed after scoring 120 runs in the first innings. J&K’s tenacious middle order, which included contributions from Vivrant Sharma, Shubham Khajuria, and Abid Mushtaq, led them home confidently. Shardul Thakur’s hundred went in vain as he tried his best in both the innings. Read more here: J&K spoil Rohit Ranji comeback, beat Mumbai after 10 years
