DRS, April 14: Royal rampage, comedy of errors, King on the rise and brand Captain Cool

Welcome to our special segment DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top stories of IPL from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life

A hilarious mix-up, a star who continues to rise and a captain who resembles his previous captain in all means – this is what a action-packed Saturday had to offer. Rajasthan Royals clinched a nail-biter against the Punjab Kings, but once again both old guards and new horses went all guns blazing, making IPL 2024 a tad bit more interesting. The day also saw a young captain be compared to a legend – ‘cut from the same cloth’ – a compliment which will turn out to be true if the former would lead his team to a record 6th victory.

On that note, let’s revisit some of the headline grabbing stories from a Super Saturday.

Comedy of errors ft. Samson

Rajasthan Royals stars Avesh Khan and Sanju Samson recreated an iconic moment that reminds all of Pakistan’s antics when it comes to fielding. Pakistan fielders and misfields go hand-in-hand, with many hilarious moments emerging over the years. From two players going for the same catch with communication to one staring at the other while both miss the catch, the incidents are nothing but rib-tickling.

Thala, Gaikwad same same?

Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming has spilled the beans on how new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad is similar to the legendary MS Dhoni. The opener replaced MSD as the side’s skipper at the start of IPL 2024, brining the curtains down on his studded career as captain. Fleming draws a parallel between Dhoni and Gaikwad and says that the latter is cut from the same cloth as the ex-skipper.

Marsh blow for DC!

Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has left for Australia to treat his hamstring tear. As per ESPNCricinfo, Cricket Australia called the cricketer back to the country after coordinating with DC. Marsh, Australia’s T20I skipper for the upcoming World Cup, missed DC’s last two games.

Not so terrorizing?

Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir has shared insights into his rapport with the team’s head coach, Chandrakant Pandit, following recent criticism from former KKR star David Wiese, who described Pandit’s coaching style as “militant.”

Pant to be banned?

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant faces the risk of getting a one-match ban in the ongoing edition of IPL 2024. The DC skipper has already been slapped with two fines for maintaining slow-over rate in the side’s last two matches. If he is found guilty yet again, he is bound to banned for a game.

A star continues to rise!

Another day, another astonishing inning from Ashutosh. The 25-year-old is making a habit of ending the inning in style. He scored 31 runs from 16 balls and took the Punjab Kings from 103/6 to 147 in just 23 balls. He scored three sixes and a four as he took Punjab to a defendable score.

Who won yesterday’s IPL match?

The Rajasthan Royals have further extended their lead on the IPL 2024 Points Table. The Sanju Samson-led side claimed their fifth win of the season in a nail-biting encounter in Mullanpur. Although Shimron Hetmyer took the side home, the credit must also go to Keshav Maharaj and Trent Boult for their incredible spells.
