Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel won’t be leading them against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. In what is a virtual knockout to decide the final spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs, DC won’t have their captain and all-rounder.
Why is Axar Patel not playing?
Faf du Plessis, who was named Axar’s deputy before the tournament started, will lead them. He informed everyone that Axar has been sick for the last couple of days. And also opened up about how difficult it is to replace someone like him, who’s basically two players in one.
“Axar has been really sick in the last two days. We’ll miss him today. Playing a good team today, we are up for it. We haven’t been at our best in the last 5-6 games. Every day there’s a new opportunity. Looks a bit dry, we’re chasing. Axar is two players, and it’s difficult to replace him. We’ll see how it goes,” Faf said at the toss.
KL Rahul will play as batter, due to injury
Another thing that piques out is KL Rahul. He has been named in the impact subs list. Rahul has been DC’s wicketkeeper, but it’ll be Abhishek Porel who’ll be behind the stumps against MI. That’s because Rahul suffered a blow to his knee in the nets yesterday. There was doubt regarding him even playing. But given Axar’s unavailability, Rahul will play, if only as a batter.
