IPL 2023 Playoffs: Cricket Australia has left it to the players to take a call on whether to leave IPL early or complete the assignment. However, players with a history of recent injuries are likely to miss out on the playoffs due to workload management for WTC Final 2023. Only four players from Australia’s WTC squad are in IPL 2023. Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh are likely to miss the playoff stage. However, David Warner and Josh Hazlewood might stay back to work on his batting before leaving for London. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes is set to miss the playoffs if Chennai Super Kings qualify. Follow Indian Premier League LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

But Josh Hazlewood has a curious case. As he is already out for a long period to nurse his Achilles injury, Cricket Australia wants him to have some competitive practice under his belt before the WTC Final. Hence, he is likely to stay back for the playoffs. Hazlewood has already missed the first half of IPL 2023. He is slated to return over the next week or so for RCB

Australian Test players in IPL 2023:

With most of the Australian players already in England playing County Cricket, Australia won’t have any long preparatory camp. Instead, when they name the final 15 players for the WTC Final on May 28, they will begin a short camp in the lead-up to the WTC and Ashes 2023.

Australia squad WTC Final: Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner.

Ben Stokes set to leave early – Ben Stokes’ debut season for Chennai Super Kings hasn’t gone as per plan. He has struggled with injury and has played just one match for CSK. Since then, he is still nursing an injury and is out of action. But the England Test captain will leave IPL early as he plans to play in the one-off Test against Ireland to prepare for the Ashes beginning June 16.

While it’s still unclear whether all the Test players will leave before the IPL 2023 Playoffs, Stokes will be one of them. Stokes is already carrying a knee and a toe injury.

“We are hopeful Stokes will stay back for the playoffs if we qualify. Yes, he had hinted at leaving IPL early but since then, he has not communicated anything officially on his return home. As Stephen said he has had a setback but we expect him to be fit by next week,” a CSK official told InsideSport.
