DC vs SRH: Sunil Gavaskar Suggests Axar Patel as Future Captain of Delhi Capitals

Former legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar praised Axar Patel for his consistent performance in the IPL. He suggested that Axar should be appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals in the long run, stating that it would also benefit the Indian cricket team.

“I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in the long run,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live.

Axar Patel played a crucial role in both of the Delhi Capitals’ victories. He held his nerves and played a patient knock of 19 not out to take Delhi home against Kolkata Knight Riders after chipping in with two crucial wickets. On Monday, he again produced an all-round effort to help Delhi edge Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs in a low-scoring thriller.

On Hyderabad’s home turf, the left-handed Axar lifted Delhi from a precarious 62-5 to 144-9 in a gritty partnership of 69 with Manish Pandey (34). He then returned figures of 2-21 with his left-arm spin, scalping the wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram.

During the eighth over of Delhi’s innings, Washington Sundar dismissed David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Hakim Khan as the Capitals went from a moderately stable position of 57/2 to 62/5. Axar then forged a 69-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Manish Pandey and helped the visitors post 144, which turned out to be the winning total in the end.

The Delhi Capitals are now gearing up for their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, April 29.
