3 players who could become KKR captain in IPL 2025

With the auction done, and KKR making some good purchases, but the question is still there, who will captain KKR in IPL 2025? See 3 contenders for the role.

IPL 2024 champions has wrapped up their business at the auction table, securing some best players and KKR will hope that they deliver the best results in the upcoming IPL 2025, which is scheduled to begin on March 14, 2025. At the mega auction, KKR made some big purchases, including bringing back Venkatesh Iyer and adding wicketkeepers Quinton de Kock and Rahmanullah Gurbaz to their squad. While they’ve filled many key positions, one big question still remains unanswered for KKR fans, and that is who will captain the team?

Several reports have suggested different names, as the team is still searching for a new leader. With Iyer no longer in the mix, the question of who will fill his captaincy boots has gained even more attention. See three players from the squad who could potentially lead the KKR pack.

Quinton de Kock

Surely not new to captaincy, this former Proteas captain has experience of leading South Africa in all three formats, including 11 T20Is, 8 ODIs, and 4 Test matches between 2018 and 2021. He also captained the Durban Super Giants in the SA20. Quinton de Kock could be permanent player in playing XI of KKR in IPL 2025, as he provides strong stability at the top and an excellent wicketkeeping option. Although nothing is confirmed yet, but considering his credentials, he could be a strong contender for the KKR captaincy in the upcoming IPL 2025.

Venkatesh Iyer

With 50 IPL matches under his belt, scoring a total of 1,326 runs with 1 century and 11 half-centuries, Venkatesh Iyer’s impressive numbers speak for themselves. What makes him the current frontrunner for the KKR captaincy is his tactical mindset. In the last IPL season, he rarely threw away his wicket and was one of KKR’s key performers. This is why KKR went all out to secure him in the IPL mega auction, making him their third-highest buy. Iyer was brought back into the KKR setup at a whopping price of Rs 23.75 crore, clearly showing how much the franchise values him. He could very well fill captaincy shoes.

Andre Russell

Not the most popular name for the captaincy post, but KKR might surprise us by making this fiery all-rounder their captain for IPL 2025. A proven performer, he has been loyal to KKR for a very long time. Before the auction, there were rumours that KKR might not retain him, but things became clear soon that he would once again play in the IPL and don the KKR jersey. Russell is an extremely experienced player with strong batting and bowling abilities. However, can he also excel as a captain? It will be interesting to see if he gets the chance. Looking at the scenario, we may see him leading the team due to his experience.
