India Squad Asia Cup: Is Deepak Chahar getting included in Asia Cup? With Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel ruled out of Asia Cup due to injury, selectors surprised all, keeping Avesh Khan as the third seamer. With Avesh Khan lacking variations, it’s understood that Deepak Chahar could be promoted to the main squad.
“Obviously, you can’t straight away select him for Asia Cup when he is making his return from injury. We have an option to change a player before the tournament. Deepak will have his chance in Zimbabwe. If he does well, gets his rhythm back, we will give it a thought,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
India have decided to go with four spinners with Deepak Hooda as a part-time option. But there are only three specialist spinners while Hardik Pandya is the other seam bowling option.
“Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru. Three players – Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar have been named as standbys,” BCCI said in a statement.

Asia CUP India Squad Selection LIVE: Surprises galore

Ravi Bishnoi pips Axar & Kuldeep:
The six teams are divided into two groups. India, Pakistan and a qualifying team are in Group A. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan forming Group B. Each team plays the other once in the group stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 round. The top 2 teams from Super 4 will qualify for the final.
