The match was announced earlier this month when John Cena cut a Bloodline promo to reveal that KO had texted him to be his tag team partner for the go-home SmackDown episode of the year. However, Kevin Owens and John Cena are not strangers to each other. They squared off against each other in 2015 when Kevin Owens pulled off a shock victory against the Cenation leader. It was KO’s first match on the main roster. During a recent interview with TMZ, Kevin Owens discussed his feelings ahead of teaming up with the WWE legend and also battling against his old friend Sami Zayn.
“It’s kind of crazy, you know it’s all kind of full circle. I started with John when I came to WWE, and now he’s going to be my partner against Sami. Me and Sami have had so much history in WWE, let alone our entire careers. To be in that kind of situation now together, it’s all just so surreal. Though Sami Zayn is currently enjoying the most happening time in his WWE career, KO believed in his abilities from long before. In a recent interview, Owens highlighted that Zayn did not get the credit he deserved during his initial days.
He’s always been unbelievable. Definitely one of the best in the world to me over the last decade, at least if not longer. For some reason, he was never really… people don’t get the credit they deserve. He was one of those guys. Now people are just taking notice.”
