Khamzat Chimaev Choose To Leave Sweden And Emigrate To UAE

On May 1, 1994, Khamzat Chimaev was born in the village of Gvardeyskoye in the then-independent Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Later, the independent nation joined the Russian Federation and is now known as the Chechen Republic.

Chimaev began wrestling at the age of five and excelled in combat sports from an early age. He supposedly took home a bronze medal in the junior division at the Russian National Championships when he was a youngster. ‘Borz’, who was one of the top freestyle wrestlers in the nation, came to Sweden with his mother when he was 18 years old to continue his wrestling career.

‘Borz’s manager Majdi Shammas has confirmed to STVSport that the Chechnya native has changed his nationality and become a citizen of the United Arab Emirates ahead of the event. The fight between ‘Borz and middleweight Paulo Costa, who is rated #6, is scheduled for UFC 294 this weekend. Despite the fact that both Sweden and the UAE allow dual citizenship, his coach has been cited as saying that “Borz” “is not a Swedish anymore.” It’s unclear whether Chimaev has renounced his Swedish citizenship or holds dual citizenship with the Emirati and Sweden.

However, it is evident that “Borz” will no longer compete under the Swedish flag and will instead represent the UAE at UFC 294, which will take place in the UAE. It’s unclear what motivated Chimaev to act in this way. However, it is widely believed that he committed this crime because he disapproved of the recent wave of Quran burnings in Sweden.
