UFC recently announced that Sean O’Malley will be returning to the octagon on October 22nd to face the former Bantamweight champion. While the fight received mixed reactions from fans, majority of whom suggest ‘Suga’ stands no chance to win the fight, O’Malley himself has quite an interesting take.
UFC 280: Sean O’Malley urges to face Petr Yan MULTIPLE times inside the octagon
While speaking to BT Sport recently, Sean O’Malley talked about his upcoming fight against Petr Yan. Moreover, he suggested that him and also Petr Yan will be mainstays in the division which will result to them fighting multiple times against each other. He said:
“Yeah, it is. It is. And I think we’re gonna fight multiple times. I think he’s what 28, 29, I’m 27. The bantamweight division is the best division in the UFC. If I had to predict, I think me and Petr will fight multiple times. He’s not going anywhere. He’s not gonna go below top five ever.”
Sean O’Malley further talked about how excited he was to finally face Petr Yan, a fight he has been chasing for a while. ‘Suga’ said:
“Once I’m up there, I don’t believe I’ll drop down either. So, I think we’ll fight multiple times. Yeah, it’s crazy that it’s happening because I’ve wanted this fight for a while. I’ve been talking sh*t to Petr for a while, a little Russian, and it’s finally here. It’s exciting.”
It is worth noting that Petr Yan is the toughest challenge of Sean O’Malley’s career so far. While the Russian is ranked number 1 in the division, O’Malley hasn’t even broken through the top 10 yet.
It will be interesting to see if Sean O’Malley can upset the odds stacked against him and get a win over the former UFC Bantamweight champion at UFC 280 or not.
