In an unfortunate incident that occurred in his last outing, Charles Oliveira was stripped off his Lightweight championship after missing weight. In an attempt to get his title back, the Brazilian will now be taking on the number 4 ranked Lightweight in the UFC.
During a recently held press conference for UFC 280, Charles Oliveira suggested that he’s open to fight Islam Makhachev on the ground. It is worth noting that the Dagestani is considered to be one of the best when it comes to grappling. However, Oliveira isn’t fazed by that.

While claiming to be the ‘best submitter’ in the history of the UFC, Charles Oliveira said:
“Well, the ground is his turf. So, he will definitely try to do that. But if he does, will he want to do and bring down the best submitter in the history of the UFC? I’m not sure. So, the name of the champion is well-known, and his name is Charles Oliveira.”
It is safe to say that Charles Oliveira isn’t bothered by all the talk surrounding Islam Makhachev’s grappling prowess and rightfully so. The Brazilian holds the record of most submission wins inside the octagon, i.e., 16.
With nearly three months remaining for the highly anticipated UFC Lightweight championship bout, it remains to be seen who comes out of this bout with the belt wrapped around their waist.
However, regardless of the outcome, the fans can expect themselves to be thoroughly entertained come UFC 280 on October 22nd as the UFC is bringing a stacked card to Abu Dhabi.
