Ahead of the matchup, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Charles Oliveira’s future if he beats Islam Makhachev. Many believe that the Brazilian would force Khabib Nurmagomedov out of retirement.

However, while they have had their history, Charles Oliveira is content with fighting Islam Makhachev at the moment. During a recently held press conference for UFC 280, the Brazilian was asked whether he’d call out Khabib Nurmagomedov if he wins against the Dagestani.
Charles Oliveira suggested that the question needs to be asked to Khabib Nurmagomedov instead. While claiming that he is focused on his fight at UFC 280 and then fighting again in January next year, Oliveira said:
“This is a question that you need to address to him [Khabib Nurmagomedov]. He has retired, deservedly, and my focus is on fighting in October, back to Brazil, fight again in January.”
It is safe to say that Charles Oliveira doesn’t have much expectations about a potential fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, before thinking about what’s next, the Brazilian is locked in for his upcoming fight and rightfully so.
Islam Makhachev posses a really different kind of threat to what Charles Oliveira is used to. However, ‘Do Bronx’ has a lot of big names under his resume while the Dagestani hasn’t quite faced a challenge like Oliveira yet.
The fight will definitely be a treat to watch for the fans regardless of the outcome. It will be interesting to see who comes out victorious at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi.
