Conor McGregor will defeat Michael Chandler, according to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s trainer Javier Mendez, if the two ultimately square off.

When Khabib, who is now retired, submitted McGregor in the biggest fight in UFC history in 2018, Mendez was by his side. As a result, Nurmagomedov kept his perfect record and the UFC lightweight title. Two years later, he would also retire as champion and unbeaten.

Since then, McGregor has fought three times, defeating Donald Cerrone in 2020 before losing to Dustin Poirier twice in 2021. The Irishman broke his leg in the second battle and has not yet returned.

Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler Fight Continues To Be Predicted

Despite the fight between McGregor and American Chandler being announced for February, it has been postponed repeatedly. In any case, Mendez, 52, has commented on the potential outcome of the battle.

The American said to Lord Ping, “I like Conor, just because Chandler likes to entertain and he’s going to stand more than he should. “I would support Chandler if he battled the way he could. However, because Chandler is such a talented performer, he will give Conor what he desires, which is to perform more stand-up than is prudent.

Out of the two, Conor is the better shot. Every time, Chandler brings the battle, but I don’t believe this is the correct kind of battle for him. Conor requires him to enter in Khabib fashion; this is the best strategy.

Mendez also cautioned Chandler, 37, about McGregor, 35, and his desire to gain an advantage through verbal conflict.

In October 2018, Khabib submitted McGregor in the fourth round after a contentious pre-fight period. Later, Khabib would defeat Poirier in September 2019 and Justin Gaethje in October 2020, winning both fights and keeping the lightweight championship.

Nurmagomedov, who is 32 years old, announced his retirement from mixed martial arts right after the latter contest. Islam Makhachev, a former classmate of Khabib’s who is currently the UFC lightweight champion, is still trained by Mendez.
