The welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and Ian Machado Garry has been scheduled for UFC 296.

The final UFC pay-per-view of the year appears to be a pivotal night for the welterweight division. In the main event of UFC 296 versus Colby Covington, Leon Edwards defends his welterweight title. A 170-pound fight between Stephen Thompson and Shavkat Rakhmonov will also be included on the bill. As of right now, Luque vs. Garry has been added to the programme, according to UFC CEO Dana White.

Vicente Luque vs. Ian Machado Garry Fight To UFC 296

The addition of Vicente Luque vs. Ian Machado Garry to the UFC’s final pay-per-view of the year adds depth.

Luque (22-9-1 MMA, 15-5 UFC) vs. Garry (13-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) has been added to UFC 296. This event will take place on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to UFC CEO Dana White’s announcement on Sunday. Preliminaries are anticipated on ESPN and ESPN+, followed by the main card on pay-per-view.

The contest will be Garry’s biggest public test to date and pits the Kill Cliff FC teammates against one another.

The No. 11 welterweight in the most recent USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, Luque, almost had his career end in 2022 after suffering a brain bleed after losing by knockout to Geoff Neal. He took a long break before coming back in the last month to defeat Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of UFC on ESPN 51 by a unanimous decision.

When he faces Garry, who is ranked No. 13, the Brazilian will attempt to gain momentum once more. The cocky Irishman is rising in the division following his recent victory over Neil Magny at UFC 292 last month, but on paper, Luque is his hardest test yet.

With the addition, the current UFC 296 lineup includes:

  • Champ Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington – for the welterweight title
  • Champ Alexandre Pantoja vs. Brandon Royval – for flyweight title
  • Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Paddy Pimblett vs. Tony Ferguson
  • Vicente Luque vs. Ian Machado Garry
