After their win against City, Fernandes spoke about how ‘they were playing like a team’ now. He said, ‘I said it before the game to the team: ‘We look like a team now.’ Some time ago, you could see sometimes [we were a team], sometimes each one of us was looking for ourselves. Now you see a proper team that works hard for each other and you see that it pays [off].’

Some people made it seem as though this was directed at Ronaldo. CR7 had an open battle with Manchester United which affected the club on and off the field. Both parties eventually found a solution as they mutually terminated Ronaldo’s contract. Many felt as though Fernandes couldn’t take a direct hit at Ronaldo and hence choose to be discreet by making such a statement.

Fernandes had to come out and squash these rumors on IG. He put a story out which said, ‘Thanks for someone to post exactly the words I said! I know that [it] is difficult to see Manchester United doing well and don’t have anything to talk about us on the news apart [from] good things. Don’t use my name to try to attack Cristiano!’

He continued, ‘Cristiano was part of our team for half of the season and as I said in many interviews EVERYONE since Liverpool is being amazing and acting like a proper team and you can see the results on that! We carry on.’
Manchester United is now fourth on the EPL table with 38 points. Newcastle is above them on 38 points as well but has played an extra game. The Red Devils are just one point shy of their arch-rivals, Manchester City, and will be hoping to continue with their momentum.
