Chelsea started an audacious attempt to sabotage Arsenal’s pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk. The 22-year-old has long been sought after by Mikel Arteta’s team, but Chelsea are apparently willing to go above and beyond to lure him to Stamford Bridge. In order to make the eight-cap Ukrainian international the second most expensive acquisition in club history, Graham Potter’s team were prepared to submit an £100 million offer, outbidding that of Arsenal.

Chelsea is willing to make additional concessions that would bring the total price closer to the player’s £88 million Shakhtar estimate. In an effort to verbally agree to hire the winger, Blues executives are currently in Poland talking with their Shakhtar colleagues. Mykola Matviyenko, a member of Mudryk’s Shakhtar club, liked a post on Instagram from Fabrizio Romano that suggested the Ukrainian international would be headed to West London, fueling more rumours.
The Blues, who had always been convinced that they could outbid Arsenal, had pulled back from making a bid for Mudryk because they had no idea if he would join them. They were also reluctant to pay anything close to Shakhtar’s asking price.

However, after last week’s loan signing of Joao Felix, Chelsea has made a strong effort to try and recruit 22-year-old Mudryk and strike a significant blow to Arsenal. Chelsea is also interested in a number of midfielders, notably Moises Caicedo of Brighton, and has made an opening £26.5 million offer for PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke. Discussions are still ongoing.
