Root on the Cusp of Special Record – Most Test Centuries vs India: As things stand, Joe Root has scored eight hundreds against India.

Currently, Root is level with former Australia skipper Steve Smith, Ricky Ponting and West Indies’ legendary pair of Sir Gary Sobers and Sir Vivian Richards.

Root’s 1st Test Hundred vs India came in Trent Bridge in Nottingham in 2014. Since then Root has plundered runs against India like no one else.

Remarkably, Root will reach the LANDMARK of 9 hundreds only in his 25th Test Match vs India.

Astonishingly, Root could score his fourth hundred of the five-match Test series on Tuesday, if he manages to go past the triple-figure mark.
As things stand, Root has scored hundreds at Trent Bridge, Lord’s and Headingley and Edgbaston could become his latest happy hunting ground.
The only Test where he hasn’t scored a hundred is the Oval while he has continued from where he left in the series in 2021.
His latest accomplishments would see him add another feather to his already impressive cap.

6 hundreds on English soil-

The eight hundreds scored against India has seen Root in pole position to break the record for most hundreds against India. Importantly, six of Root’s eight hundreds have come on English soil and is all set to add one more to his tally.

Apart from the six on English soil, Root has scored two on Indian soil. In February 2021 Root managed to score a double hundred and enjoys his time against India. A hundred in Rajkot in Nov 2016 was the other occasion when he managed to reach the triple-figure mark.

Root in numbers-

As things stand, India is Root’s favourite opponent with eight hundreds. Recently Root scored couple of hundreds against New Zealand to take his tally to four against the Kiwis; he scored 86 in the final Test and missed out on a hundred. Root also has four hundreds each against Sri Lanka and West Indies.

The former England captain’s least favourite opponents are Pakistan and South Africa, against whom he has scored only two hundreds. Remarkably, he is yet to score a hundred against Bangladesh and despite playing against Ireland in an only Test match in 2019, he didn’t manage to score a ton. Therefore, Bangladesh and Ireland stand the only opponents against whom Root has played and failed to score a hundred.
