A big question – Virat Kohli’s form
Of late, Virat Kohli has been bagging the headlines for all the wrong reasons. His poor run of scores has been a talking point. Even in IPL 2022, Kohli scored just 341 at a strike rate of 115 at the top. With the former captain batting at number three for India, he is required to up the tempo. Unfortunately, he does not go after the bowling straight away. He takes some time to get going.
If the openers give India a flying start and Kohli comes to bat at number three during the middle overs, he does not find the boundary ropes often. That puts pressure on the other Indian players. However, there is no problem with strike rate when it comes to Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar. With the kind of history, India have had with the number four batting position, they need to be careful. Both the players have it in them to deliver big. They can score run at ease. Their ability to hit sixes at will make it a tricky choice.
As of now, Suryakumar stands the best choice. He has all the shots in the book against both the pacers and spinners. He is a difficult batter to bowl at. The stylish right-hander needs to prove his worth in the T20 series for the management to put a tick mark against his name.

Umran Malik has become the talk of the town. His sheer pace and his IPL 2022 outing are two big reasons for his inclusion in the Indian team. With bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the shorter format, they have everything sans pace. Malik can become the X factor in India’s bowling up line.
Playing against England, the best T20 side in the world, will help the selectors know where he stands. A fine show, and he may well be considered for the T20 World Cup in Australia.
