Jonny Bairstow REAL LIFE STORY – The story behind Bairstow’s rise – At the age of 8 an unfortunate incident occurred in the life of Jonnny Bairstow. This tragic incident changed his LIFE FOREVER.
An eight-year-old Jonny walked into his home with sister Becky and mother Janet, only to find his father had hung himself from the staircase.
Bairstow’s father had been suffering from depression and committed suicide. Bairstow’s life completely changed after the incident.
“When things were at their darkest and the grief in me was raw and at its worst. The feeling came and went again, wiped away because I realised he loved us and I realised, too, how desperate he must have been to make the choice he did,” Bairstow said while reflected on his most challenging time..
After the incident Jonny stood next to his mother, staring out of the window at the garden, when he quietly said, “Don’t worry, we will be alright.”
Bairstow according to his own admission himself suffered from MENTAL DEPRESSION and anxiety. According to a report by Indian Express, he even sought out a sports psychologist David Priestly.
Bairstow spoke to him about his mental approach to batting. Overcame the issues and reached the level where he is today.
Bairstow overcomes personal issues-
- It was a phoenix rise for the Englishman who had suffered a lot during his playing time as well.
- It all changed during the Cape Town Test in 2016 when in the company Ben Stokes, Bairstow came up with his first ton, a composed measured knock against South Africa.
- The versatile English batter was mentored by Ian Dews Director of Cricket at Yorkshire, who helped him grow as a better cricketer.
- Dews played a key part in Bairstow’s revival after the horrid 2013-14 Ashes tour by overhauling his batting technique.
- Bairstow was at his technical best when he came up with a changed mindset and improved skills which has resulted in the his current accomplishments.
