Kohli vs Ganguly: RCB vs DC – Men will be men. As it seems, no love lost between two former Indian captains Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly. The ex-BCCI president refused to shake hands after Virat Kohli celebrated his half-century aggressively in the RCB vs DC match. Ganguly was on the losing side as Delhi Capitals suffered their 5th consecutive loss. Kohli smashed his 47th IPL fifty to rub salt into DC’s wounds in the 23-run victory for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Follow IPL 2023 LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

Virat Kohli doesn’t celebrate aggressively anymore as he explained in an interview that he doesn’t need to at this stage of his career. But the mere presence of Sourav Ganguly in Delhi Capitals dugout definitely riled up Kohli. Despite scoring fifty off 33 balls, Kohli went fist up in the air. Was that to mock Ganguly? We will never know.

As Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets after Kohli helped RCB post 174/6, there was a brief moment that the cameraman missed. Virat Kohli gave a death stare at Ganguly who seemed upset and had his face down at the lacklustre performance by Delhi batters. However, for Virat Kohli fans, it was a moment of triumph as RCB humiliated DC by 23 runs and Kohli top-scored in the win.

Kohli vs Ganguly Heart of the Matter:

It has long been assumed that Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly don’t like each other. While former chairman of the selection committee Chetan Sharma called it an ego tussle, Kohli did no favours by publicly calling out Ganguly a liar.

“When the player becomes popular, he considers himself to be bigger than the board and thinks that nobody can touch him. He feels that cricket in India would stop without him. Kohli tried to hit back at the president at that time. It was a damaging controversy. It was a classic case of a player going against the BCCI. The president represents the BCCI, isn’t it? As to whose fault it was, that will be judged in time. But it was an attack on the BCCI. There has to be some respect for the chair,” Chetan Sharma said in a sting operation by Zee News.

It all started with Kohli’s fallout against former India coach Anil Kumble. As Kumble was picked by Cricket Advisory Committee with Ganguly being a member, it did not sit well. While he never made it public, inside BCCI’s power corridors, things were not okay.

But the final nail in the coffin for their relationship was when Kohli assumed that Ganguly forced him out of ODI captaincy. Kohli stepped down from India T20 captaincy during the T20 World Cup 2021. While Ganguly and other BCCI officials asked him to reconsider the decision, Kohli stuck to his guns.

Later, Ganguly told media that he and others on the board had urged him to reconsider his decision as it India could not have two white-ball captains.

But Virat Kohli came all guns blazing at a press conference before departing for South Africa. He said nobody had called him to reconsider his decision. Instead, he was informed just 90 minutes before the selection meeting that he would no longer be ODI captain. After the tour, Kohli stepped down from Test captaincy. Kohli believed it was Ganguly who forced him out.

However, it was a mutiny aginst the BCCI. With form deserting him, Ganguly apparently wanted Kohli sacked from captaincy and also dropped from the team. However, nobody could ever confirm such a thing. Ganguly wanted to show cause Virat Kohli but was dissuaded by Jay Shah.
