IPL 2022: Sunil Gavaskar virtually RULES OUT Ishan Kishan’s chances of making T20 World Cup squad, says ‘In Australia, he will be hit left, right and centre off bouncers’
Ishan Kishan’s weakness against short-pitched deliveries has come to light on Sunday against Lucknow Super Giants. LSG seamers came with a plan against Kishan and repeatedly tested the southpaw with barrage of bouncers.
He completely misjudged a short-pitched delivery from Dushmanta Chameera in the second over of the innings and got hit on his left shoulder and winced in pain. He continued to struggle with his timing against bouncers and managed to just score 8 runs off 20 balls in the match.

“Ishan’s struggle against bounce and the multiple blows he has had in this IPL shows that he is not suited for conditions like Australia where bounce is higher than here. In Australia, it will be hit right, left and centre,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports at the post-match show.
This is not the first time that the 23-year old struggled against bouncers. Earlier this year during the T20I series against Sri Lanka, he was hit on the helmet by a Lahiru Kumara bouncer. He received a blow on his head and was rushed to the hospital after the game. He even had to miss the next T20 game of the series as a precautionary measure.
Kishan is being looked upon as an opening partner for Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup. However, with his current struggles against bouncers, the youngster needs to work on his technique to stand any chance of surviving on Australian pitches that always offers extra bounce to pacers.
