The only respite which MI currently has is that their loss is still not the worst ever losing streak in the history of IPL. Pune Warriors India and Kolkata Knight Riders jointly top the charts after having undergone 9 successive defeats. According to the looks of it, the Mumbai Indian’s chances of making it to the playoffs is virtually over.
- Pune Warriors India suffered 9 straight losses in the 2012 season. Their fortunes didn’t change in 2013 as they went on an 11-match losing spree. PWI lost their opening 2 games in the 2013 season and thereby continued their losing spree from 2012.
- Kolkata Knight Riders too experienced a 9-match losing streak in 2009. The Kolkata side failed to win any of their opening 10 games (1 being abandoned). Hower KKR made a comeback to end the season with 2 wins in the last 2 games.

As things stand, even if Mumbai wins their remaining matches, they can reach a maximum of 12 points, which potentially won’t be enough for the side to make it to the playoffs.
