IPL 2021: IPL youngsters Sarfaraz Khan, Rahul Tripathi play ‘DIL SCOOP’: The wide-ranging shots know no bounds especially when it comes to the cricketing format like IPL. The cash-rich league, which is a perfect breeding ground for youngsters, provides them with a plethora of opportunities to learn different cricketing shots. Recently, young cricketers- Sarfaraz Khan (Punjab Kings) & Rahul Tripathi (Kolkata Knight Riders) were seen practising the elusive- ‘DIL SCOOP’ during the practice session ahead of the second phase of IPL 2021 in UAE.

In a video shared by PKBS on Twitter, Sarfaraz Khan displayed sheer confidence with the bat while training in the nets. While undertaking his batting practice, he inquired his teammate as to where he should hit the shot. No sooner his teammate responded ‘peeche’ (back), the 23-year old smashed a ‘Dil Scoop’ just in the next delivery and impressed everyone.

KKR’s emerging opening batsman- Rahul Tripathi’s appetite for new shots was seen in KKR’s post that featured their head coach Brendon McCullum as he joined the camp. The 30-year old took special training from McCullum in order to learn to perfectly play the ‘Dil Scoop.’

Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan popularised ‘Dil Scoop’

Primarily known as paddle scoop or ramp shot, the unorthodox shot gained significance as ‘Dil Scoop’ on Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan’s name. The Lankan batsman who played for RCB in IPL had this as his signature shot and was seen playing it quite often. Since then, the shot has gained special prominence especially in the shorter formats of the game.

Simply, the shot is mainly the deflection of the ball over the batsman’s leg side shoulder, thus guiding the ball towards the fine leg region.
