IND vs AUS Test: Ravindra Jadeja Injury Update – There is good and bad news both. Good news first, Ravindra Jadeja has cleared his fitness test at the NCA. He will join the Test squad for the preparatory camp in Nagpur on Thursday. The bad news is Shreyas Iyer is still at the NCA and is yet to get his clearance. InsideSport understands that Shreyas is still doubtful for the IND AUS Nagpur Test. However, there is still a week left and the team management will for a few days before taking a call on a replacement. Follow India vs Australia LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

If Shreyas is ruled out, Suryakumar Yadav will make his Test debut in his absence. As for Jadeja, he has reached peak fitness and is ready for the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia. The first Test starts on February 9.

Ravindra Jadeja Injury – Already struggling with knee troubles, Jadeja suffered a freak accident in an off-day training session during Asia Cup. He was rushed to Mumbai and had immediate surgery on his right knee. As a result, he missed out on the ICC T20 World Cup later in October-November.

While he was named for the Bangladesh series, the physios at the NCA felt, it was too early. He was pulled out of the squad. He also missed the SriLanka series. Instead, the BCCI and the selectors asked him to prove his fitness by playing in Ranji Trophy.

Playing for Saurashtra in Chennai, Jadeja made a triumphant return. He bowled 41.1 overs and took a seven-for in the second innings. He also scored 15 and 25 with the bat. The match restored confidence in him about his fitness.

After the match, which his side lost, Jadeja said that he was “good to go” for the Tests against Australia. One of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) physios travelled with the all-rounder to keep a track of his fitness. Jadeja is back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to complete his final round of fitness tests.

The last Test match Jadeja played was back in July 2022 against England, a rescheduled fifth Test from the series that took place in 2021.

Jadeja’s inclusion in the Test squad for the Bangladesh tour in December was subject to fitness and he was ruled out. An extension of his rehab meant that he missed the white-ball series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand too.

But after getting a greenlight from NCA, he played in Ranji to determine his fitness for an all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy title defence and get some game time before facing the Aussies, who have not won in India since 2004.

Shreyas Iyer Injury – Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer however continues to recover from his stiff back at the NCA. He is yet to get his fitness clearance. He was ruled out of the ODI series against NewZealand after complaining of a lower back issue. He recently started receiving injections to help the swelling in his lower back area. He has also started acupressure therapy to relieve the pain.

However, because of this issue, he will need a little more time at the NCA before gaining a clearance. If he gets cleared, Shreyas will no doubt be the first-choice middle-order batter. But if he misses out on the 1st Test in Nagpur, Suryakumar Yadav will make his Test debut. Shubman Gill could also feature in middle-order in case India opens with skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Shreyas has averaged over 60 in last year’s five Tests in which he also smashed 422 runs and four fifties. Iyer is optimistic about his quick recovery and is on the course of being declared fully fit, but BCCI wants to make sure that he is healed completely before he travels to Nagpur and joins India’s preparatory camp for BGT, beginning on February 2.
