Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka hosted leadership from MOONTON Games and prominent local esports athletes at the Vice Presidential Palace earlier this week. The high-level meeting served to solidify the Indonesian government’s dedication to scaling the nation’s digital economy and fostering its burgeoning competitive gaming landscape.
Indonesian Vice President Meets MOONTON Games
During the dialogue, Vice President Gibran underscored that esports has transitioned from simple entertainment into a vital pillar of the creative economy. He emphasized a multi-faceted approach to growth, focusing on:
- Talent Scouting: Identifying and nurturing the next generation of digital competitors.
- Industry Synergy: Encouraging deeper collaboration between developers and local stakeholders.
- Regional Expansion: Pushing esports initiatives beyond Jakarta to reach youth across the entire archipelago.
A Global Leader in Mobile Gaming
The meeting follows a historic milestone for the country. In January 2026, Jakarta hosted the M7 World Championship, which shattered records with over 5.68 million peak concurrent viewers. This event cemented Indonesia’s status as a premier global hub for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB).
Kenny Deo, coach for Alter Ego Esports, noted that the Vice President is personally committed to expanding the professional infrastructure of the sport. Echoing this sentiment, Cherry Xia, MOONTON’s Head of Publishing and Esports, expressed optimism for the future as the company prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of MLBB.
“We view ourselves as more than just a game developer,” Xia stated. “We have a responsibility to support the evolution of Indonesia’s broader internet and gaming sectors.”

The partnership between the government and MOONTON Games extends into social welfare. This year’s “Golden Month” charity drive, held during Ramadan, aims to raise IDR 200 million. The funds are earmarked for supporting underprivileged youth and children battling cancer, showcasing the industry’s ability to drive positive social change through community engagement.
As Indonesia continues to dominate the global mobile gaming market, the continued alignment between the state and private developers is expected to create a sustainable, world-class ecosystem for future digital athletes.
