Most popular name in this regards is of Haas team principle Guenther Steiner. Over the course of last season, he was under the fire for harsh treatment of former team pilot Mick Schumacher. In 2021, the move by Steiner to put the German behind the wheel of the highest-order machinery was considered a brave one. However, it didn’t reap any good results as the then defending F2 champion could not score a single point the whole season.

The team decided to boast Schumacher as their main man for another season in 2022. Though, better at competing this time around, his unprecedented crashes started to cost the team in millions. Following the frustration regarding this, Steiner harshly criticized Schumacher, using the choicest of words, and it didn’t sit right with many. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff famously contributed his disagreement with handing of Schumacher situation.

Guenther Steiner says he “normally” shares good relations with drivers

Mick Schumacher is currently serving his duties as the Mercedes reserve driver. He was recently entrusted with the mid-season testing of W-14 alongside George Russell, which saw him take the wheel for the very first time this season. However, his performance over the last two years was a point of intense discussion amongst the F1 juggernaut. To his disappointment, it led to him being parked on the bench for 2023.

More recently, Steiner appeared on an episode of Billy Monger and Johnny Herbert’s podcast. On being asked about this hot-and-recurring topic about his relations with the drivers, he had a rather positive answer to it.

“When drivers get to F1, they know what is expected from them. I normally have quite a good relation with drivers. I treat them very respectfully,” said Steiner.

“know what they have to do. I support them. When they’ve got issues, I say call me up. If they have something to ask, they are free to call me up,” added Haas F1 boss.
