The F1 Sprint will henceforth function as a stand-alone event on race weekends when the format is utilised, having no bearing on the starting lineup for the main event. Free Practise 1 and regular qualifying will now take place on Friday, with the latter determining the starting lineup for the Grand Prix on Sunday. The 100 km Sprint race will now take place on Saturdays, and it will be preceded by a new qualifying event called the Sprint Shootout.

It will take less time to complete the Sprint Shootout than traditional qualifying. The three phases will remain the same, though. The duration of SQ1 will be 12 minutes, SQ2 will be 10 minutes, and SQ3 will be 8 minutes. On GP weekends when there is a Sprint race, the FP2 will no longer be held. Additionally, each Sprint qualifying phase requires the use of brand-new tyres, with mediums for SQ1 and SQ2 and softs for SQ3.

The Sprint’s grading scheme has not been altered. The F1 Sprint winner receives eight points, second place receives seven points, and so forth until the eighth-place finisher receives just one point. The 100 km Sprint race won’t have any bearing on Sunday’s major Grand Prix event according to the new structure.

Other Sprint locations in 2023 besides Azerbaijan include Austria, Belgium, Qatar, the United States (Circuit of The Americas), and Sao Paulo.
