Germany started brightly, as Kai Havertz and Antonio Rüdiger put in a shot on goal each in the first few minutes. Yet England soon found a reply as Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane both registered an attempt of their own.
There was worrying news for England as Kalvin Phillips suffered an injury and was replaced by Jude Bellingham. Germany had the ball in the back of the net on 23 minutes thanks to a Jonas Hofmann strike, but it was ruled out for offside.
The fourth official indicated eight minutes of injury time at the end of the first half, as both sides exchanged chances but neither could break the deadlock. It didn’t take Germany long to find the net after the break, as Hofmann scored five minutes after half time, and this time it counted.
England suddenly looked brighter and Harry Kane went close with a sliding effort that Manuel Neuer somehow blocked with his body. Harry Kane seemed to be tripped and appealed for a penalty, but the referee said no.
He went back to check VAR and awarded the spot-kick. Kane stepped up, and duly converted. The referee blew for full-time as the match finished 1-1.

Another Roma man was almost on the scoresheet for the Azzurri, as Gianluca Mancini fired a header towards Hungary goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz and forced an excellent save. It was then Italy stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s turn to make a save as a low shot from Roland Sallai forced him to get down quickly.
Italy made the breakthrough on the half hour mark as Inter’s Nicolò Barella hit a wicked shot into the top corner from a Spinazzola assist. The Azzurri dominated this period of the match, and just seven minutes after the goal, Alessandro Bastoni found himself in behind Hungary’s defence with only the goalkeeper to beat, but the onrushing Dubusz did well to smother the chance.
Italy doubled the lead thanks to Pellegrini, who converted a simple tap-in from a Matteo Politano assist. The onslaught on the Hungary goal continued after the break, as Politano cracked an effort onto the crossbar.
But then Italy gave Hungary a way back in as Mancini scored an embarrassing own goal, putting a cross into the back of his own net to make it 2-1. In the end, Italy held on to take their first win of this Nations League campaign finished the evening top of the group.
