Premier League LIVE Broadcast: Disney Star renews deal for Premier Leauge, but only at 25% less value

Disney Star EPL Deal: Premier Leauge LIVE broadcast in India has completed 20 years on Disney Star Sports Networks channels.

The sports broadcaster has extended its media rights deal for the next three-season cycle – 2023-2024 to 2025-2026.

EPL media rights third consecutive stint with Star India is agreed with a commercial hit for the Football Association-backed top flight club football competition in England.

  • EPL has lost media rights value for 3rd consecutive term in India
  • The value erosion for the next term is almost 25%
  • In last 3 cycles EPL value in India has almost lost 65% value.

Star Sports three years back had inked the deal to extend the Premier League exclusive rights for the Indian sub-continent on up to a 20% cut on the previous cycle’s value.

Premier Leauge Media Rights: Values going down in India but commercials skyrocketing in other global markets

Premier League had confirmed most of its global media rights deals in last 3-6 months.

The value of the Premier League’s overseas TV rights will be greater than the domestic contract for the first time from next season. 

The new deals recently agreed notwithstanding erosion of value in India has taken the overall package to £10.4billion.

  • The foreign TV rights now worth £5.3bn for the 2022 to 2025 seasons compared to the £5.1bn paid by Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime over the same period.
  • As a result of the increase next season’s Premier League winners will receive £176m in prize money.
  • The bottom club getting £106m, a significant rise from the £153m and £96m respectively that will be doled out to those clubs this season.
