Premier League: You know what they say, Cash is King. The amount of money that Chelsea has spent over the course of this season is a living embodiment of that. The money that has been shelled out even during the sale of the club from Roman Abramovic and Todd Boehly is an astonishing amount. It is hard to say whether Todd or Roman got the best deal out there, but it is safe to say that Marina Granovskaia is a definite winner from the sale of the club. She is said to have been paid £35 million for helping to facilitate Todd Boehly’s £ 4.25 billion Chelsea takeover last year. Follow Chelsea Football Club LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN

Granovskaia served as a director at Stamford Bridge under the previous ownership after serving as Roman Abramovich’s dependable assistant for more than ten years. Boehly quickly moved on from her, and she left in June, handing over management of Chelsea’s summer business to the American.

According to Chelsea’s financial statements at the end of the fiscal year, Granovskaia received £35 million for “services linked to the sale.” A share of the remaining £14 million went to the former chairman Bruce Buck, who held the position under Abramovich for 18 years.

Chelsea’s financial records also show that they shelled out an astounding £368 million last summer to hire new personnel. After offloading 16 players, the Blues only made £22 million in sales.

Due to their extravagant spending, the West Londoners recorded an operational loss of £235 million during the 2021–22 campaign. This brings their total losses to £1 billion, making them the first Premier League team to ever reach such a staggering sum.

Chelsea’s season so far

In the January transfer season too, Chelsea spent huge money. The £323 million spent by Chelsea in January on players like Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez, among others, will be reflected in their upcoming financial statements. This season, despite their high expenditures, they have not been successful on the pitch.

After firing both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this year, the Blues are currently sitting in 11th place in the Premier League. This week, they selected Frank Lampard as interim manager till the end of the campaign. The Stamford Bridge favourite, though, was unable to instantly change their situation as he presided over yesterday’s 1-0 loss against Wolves.

Chelsea went out of both domestic cups quite early and it seemed like the same would happen against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League. Potter though, redeemed himself there and ensured the Blues would be in the Quarterfinals of the competition.

Lampard spoke about the game after his first game loss against Wolves, where Chelsea lost 1-0. He said, ‘If you are worried don’t come. The players shouldn’t be. I’m not saying the squad doesn’t have that aggression, it’s just bringing it together. Wednesday will be a completely different game. I’m very happy to be back. We have a huge game waiting for us on Wednesday where everything changes.’
