After being withdrawn from Brighton’s matchday squad due to issues about the forward’s mentality, the Belgian allegedly boarded a Eurostar to return home. De Zerbi has subsequently stated that Trossard can return to the club, but his future remains uncertain, as he has been linked with a move away from the South Coast during this transfer window. Trossard’s contract ends at the end of the season, but the Seagulls are said to have a 12-month option to extend it.

Chelsea is also interested in signing the winger, who scored seven goals in 16 league games this season. Trossard, who is reported to be back in Belgium, has not played for the club in 2023 and was not present in his team’s 3-0 win over Liverpool after leaving training early without De Zerbi’s consent.

In a statement released last week, Comhair detailed just how frosty things have gotten between the two parties. ‘After the World Cup, there was an altercation between Leandro and a player in training over a trivial matter,’ Comhair said.
‘Since then, the manager no longer speaks to Leandro, which is obviously not conducive to the atmosphere, nor is it performance-oriented. Last Monday, the manager humiliated Leandro in group and indicated that he no longer wanted to see him. ‘
