Kerala Blasters fans pay heartfelt tribute to Wayanad landslide victims at ISL season opener

At the ISL season opener, Kerala Blasters fans paid tribute to the Wayanad landslide victims, honouring their memory during the match.

Kerala Blasters kicked off their ISL season 11 at their home ground, JLN Stadium, Kochi. The team is playing its first match against Punjab FC. It’s a great sight, as fans are excited and happy to witness the season opener on Sunday evening. The stadium is filled with Kerala Blasters supporters and their fan group Manjappada. On the sidelines of the match, the Manjappada fan group also paid a noble tribute to the Wayanad landslide victims.

What happened in the Wayanad landslide?

The 2024 Wayanad landslides were a series of devastating landslides that struck Punjirimattom, Wayanad, Kerala, in the early hours of 30th July 2024. Triggered by heavy rainfall, the landslides caused hillsides to collapse, obliterating the areas below. This disaster ranks among the deadliest in Kerala’s history, with over 336 reported deaths, 397 injuries, and 78 individuals still missing.

Captain Adrian Luna is absent

Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna is not playing in the season opener at the JLN Stadium. The reason for his absence is personal, as the Uruguayan footballer has been granted a week off to travel back home for the birth of his child.
