The restrictions on filming inside of any form of accommodations, make it hard for journalists to dig up news regarding sensitive issues. The mistreatment of migrant workers or issues raised due to the exclusionary behaviors towards the LGBTQIA community is less likely to be discussed by someone in a public place.

The other regulations under the filming permit refer to three spots at Doha as ‘Eligible’ for filming. The Corniche waterfront promenade, the west Bay Area, and the Towers area are the only permitted public places that can be filmed.’
The areas of worship, Universities, and Government buildings are also off the limits for photographers and videographers. Any restrictions regarding print media are still to be made by the government. However, they have made it clear that no report that threatens the fabric of Qatari culture will be released and people reporting such stories will be held accountable.

Qatar has always had a bad reputation regarding the freedom of the press. Back in 2015, BBC journalists were arrested due to reporting on migrant workers. During working with FIFA, the journalists hoped for a more improved framework of regulations during the event. FIFA however, has said they are working with the supreme committee of Qatar and hope to give out a rich journalistic experience during the matches.
