Yashasvi Jaiswal to be punished for catching lapses? Sai Sudharsan makes it to slip cordon in practice

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a terrific fielder for India, where he has pouched 20 catches, and missed only 8 chances.

While many were expecting India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to retain his spot in the slip cordon, but it seems that the damage done in the first Test at Leeds, where he dropped four catches, is irreparable. As per a report in RevSportz, during the practice session on Monday, during the fielding drill, a new slip cordon was seen.

No Yashasvi Jaiswal in Slip Cordon?

In place of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is usually a very safe fielder, Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy rotated between the fourth slip and gully. The first slip seems to be sealed by Karun, KL Rahul at second slip, and Shubman Gill at the third slip. On the other hand, Jassu wasn’t ignored at all, as coach Gautam Gambhir and Ryan Ten Doeschate helped him will some catching for at least 15 minutes.

Sai Sudharsan & Nitish Kumar Reddy New Entrants?

India were guilty of missing far too many chances in the first Test, which gave many lifelines to the English team, and the visitors clearly identified the shortcoming. That said, Jaiswal could be seen fielding close range to the batter — either at leg slip, forward short leg or even silly point, the report suggested.

Later in the evening, coach Ryan Ten Doeschate also clarified, as to what could be the ploy. “You always want depth in the catching department in England.. You’re gonna have four catchers at some point. Yashasvi has been a very good catcher for us, we want to manage his confidence. There is also an argument for short leg being a very important position, particularly when you play two spinners,” he said. “His hands are quite sore, and we want to get his confidence back up.”

If one goes back to the first Test, Jaiswal had dropped Ben Duckett early on in the first innings, then Jadeja also committed the same blunder. Then Jassu dropped Ollie Pope at the third slip … Jamie Smith was dropped, and then Harry Brook. Then in the second innings, Jaiswal dropped one at deep backward square leg.
