In what is Virender Sehwag vs Glenn Maxwell Part II, the former India opener has slammed the Australian all-rounder for his poor run of form in IPL 2025. Sehwag has called IPL a holiday period for Maxwell and Liam Livingstone for not living up to expectations, and they no longer have the hunger.
“I feel like Maxwell and Livingstone’s hunger is gone. Yeh yaha holiday manane aate hai (they come here for a holiday). They arrive, have their fun, and leave. There’s no visible desire to fight for the team,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Maxwell & Livingstone in IPL 2025
Maxwell joined Punjab Kings for a third stint for Rs 4.20 crore after a poor IPL 2024 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he has extended his wretched form. In IPL 2025, Maxwell has scores of 0, 30, 1, 3 and 7. With the ball, he has bagged five wickets. His poor run of form, averaging 8.20 with the bat, forced Punjab Kings to drop him from the Playing XI.
Similarly, Liam Livingstone was also axed from RCB playing XI following a poor run of form. Although the English all-rounder scored a half-century against Gujarat Titans, his returns otherwise have been poor.
He has scores of 15, 10, 54, 0, 4, 4 and just two wickets in seven matches. RCB also dropped him for the reverse fixture against Punjab Kings. Livingstone has averaged just 17.4 with the bat in seven matches.
“I’ve spent time with a lot of former players, but only 1 or 2 really gave me the feeling that, ‘Yes, I genuinely want to do something for the team’,” Virender Sehwag further added.

Sehwag vs Maxwell history
This is not the first time Virender Sehwag has had a go at Glenn Maxwell. In IPL 2014 when Sehwag was the mentor at Punjab Kings, Maxwell was the captain.
In his book “Glenn Maxwell: The Showman,” the Australian all-rounder revealed a fallout in 2014. Sehwag labelled Maxwell as a “big disappointment”. That harsh criticism left Maxwell upset. The Australian texted Sehwag saying he had lost a fan in him. Sehwag responded, “Don’t need a fan like you.” That was the final blow, leading Maxwell to issue an ultimatum: he would not play for the team under Sehwag’s mentorship again.
“I volunteered to do press that night, but Sehwag said he would instead. Upon getting onto the team bus, I found I’d been deleted from the main WhatsApp group. What was going on here? By the time we reached the hotel, my phone was blowing up, with Sehwag having unloaded on me as a “big disappointment”. He blamed me for not taking responsibility as captain. It was unpleasant, especially when I thought we had parted on good terms,” Maxwell said in his book.
