PBKS run out of patience, Glenn Maxwell dropped for RCB clash

IPL 2025: Maxwell's indifferent IPL 2025 form saw him dropped from PBLS' clash vs RCB

Glenn Maxwell’s extended run in the Punjab Kings playing XI came to an end after captain Shreyas Iyer decided to drop the Aussie all-rounder. Maxwell’s form has been poor in IPL 2025, and he was subsequently dropped for Marcus Stoinis for the RCB vs PBKS clash on Friday.

Punjab Kings (Playing XI): Priyansh Arya, Nehal Wadhera, Shreyas Iyer(c), Shashank Singh, Josh Inglis(w), Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.

No Bengaluru return for Maxwell, PBKS opt for Marcus Stoinis

Glenn Maxwell‘s support cast role to Yuzvendra Chahal’s demolition of Kolkata Knight Riders was not enough for him to retain his spot in the side. Maxwell picked up 2 wickets with the ball in PBKS’ historic win, but made way for Marcus Stoinis. The Australian all-rounder has been in a dreadful run with bat in hand, scoring 41 runs in 6 IPL 2025 games.

Punjab Kings opted to bring back Marcus Stoinis who was a surprise omission in their last game. Stoinis had whacked Mohammed Shami for four consecutive sixes in the game vs SRH, but did not feature against KKR. Now, with short boundaries and runs on offer, Stoinis was back in the mix for the visitors.

The decision robs Maxwell a return to the Chinnaswamy, where he spent the previous IPL cycle. The Australians enjoyed a few good seasons in Bengaluru, his best after his early Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) stint. Maxwell averaged 28.64 at Chinnaswamy while playing for RCB, scoring at a strike rate of 186.39. However, those numbers significantly dip while facing RCB, with an average of 7.50 and a strike rate of 105.
