Pakistan did their chances of making the World test Championship a world of good after sealing a historic four-wicket win in Galle on Wednesday. Abdullah Shafique scored an unbeaten 160 as Pakistan chased down 344 to take a 1-0 lead in the series over Sri Lanka.

The win significantly boosted Pakistan’s chances of making the Final, with Babar Azam’s side jumping to 3rd in the WTC Points table. Pakistan now have a win percentage of 58.33 significantly more than fourth-placed India. Sri Lanka meanwhile slipped to fifth following their loss at home.

Pakistan were fourth in the table heading into the Test, but the win saw them close in on the top two, with South Africa and Australia significantly ahead with a 70+ PCT in this cycle. South Africa will now gear up for a tour of England starting next month.

India meanwhile have slipped down the standings following their loss in the IND vs ENG 5th test at Edgbaston earlier this month. Rohit Sharma and Co. have six Tests left in the current cycle, with two away at Bangladesh and four at home to Australia. India had made the final last time around, losing the final to New Zealand at Southampton. The final of the current edition will be held at Lord’s.
