IPL 2025 Live Updates: Gulbadin Naib to join DC?

Excluding those who were yet to join the teams, 71 foreign players were playing in the IPL 2025 season before it was halted.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will start tomorrow. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants the world’s best T20 tournament to end with a bang after being halted for a few days. But it may not be possible. That’s because star foreign players, who often add an extra charm, might not return.

From NOCs (no objection certificates) to fear of safety due to what transpired last week is all playing a part. Some cricketers have confirmed they’ll come, but that isn’t the case for all. The BCCI has also brought in the temporary replacement rule to ensure IPL teams that are in contention for playoffs aren’t weakened due to missing foreign players.

IPL 2025 Live Updates

CSK: Is Rachin Ravindra coming?

  • Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Dewald Brevis, Sam Curran (out), Jamie Overton (out), Nathan Ellis, Noor Ahmad, Matheesha Pathirana

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will miss the services of Sam Curran and Jamie Overton, who has been picked for England’s white-ball series against the West Indies. There are doubts over Rachin Ravindra not coming back either.

PBKS: Marcus Stoinis & Josh Inglis out?

  • Josh Inglis, Mitchell Owen, Azmatullah Omarzai, Aaron Hardie, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Jamieson (replaces Lockie Ferguson)

Stoinis and Inglis aren’t likely to return for Punjab Kings (PBKS), and head coach Ricky Ponting is trying hard to convince them. The good news is that all the others are expected to come to India for the remaining matches. Support staff members Brad Haddin and James Hope never went back home.

Jansen might be available until May 25 as of now, but Mitchell Owen has joined them after announcing that he won’t return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

SRH: Cummins & Head to return

  • Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Kamindu Mendis, Wiaan Mulder, Eshan Malinga

There was some doubt regarding Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Cummins returning to India. But it turns out he’s ready to come back. Not just Cummins, but Head will return as well.

DC: Starc pulls out

  • Mitchell Starc (out), Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk (replaced by Mustafizur Rahman), Sediqullah Atal, Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira, Dushmantha Chameera

Jake Fraser-McGurk and Mitchell Starc aren’t returning. Faf du Plessis and Donovan Ferreira might not come as well. As for Tristan Stubbs, his NOC is until May 25, and he’ll leave before the IPL 2025 Playoffs.

RCB: Hazlewood returning

  • Phil Salt, Tim David, Jacob Bethell, Romario Shepherd, Liam Livingstone, Josh Hazlewood, Lungi Ngidi, Nuwan Thushara

Jacob Bethell, Phil Salt and Lungi Ngidi will leave before the playoffs due to international commitments. Josh Hazlewood is expected to return for the playoffs. Romario Shepherd will stay throughout as per Cricket West Indies.

MI: No update on Santner

  • Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, Trent Boult, Bevon Jacobs, Will Jacks, Mitchell Santner, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Reece Topley

Mumbai Indians (MI) have two South African players, Rickelton and Bosch, who will leave by May 26. Jacks is set to play against the West Indies and will leave before the playoffs as well. It’s unsure whether Santner will return. Trent Boult is coming back; that’s confirmed.

KKR: Moeen Ali & Rovman Powell out

  • Quinton de Kock, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Rovman Powell (out), Rahmatullah Gurbaz, Moeen Ali (out), Spencer Johnson, Anrich Nortje

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won’t have the services of Rovman Powell or Moeen Ali, who have fitness issues.

GT: Buttler & Rabada to leave before playoffs

  • Jos Buttler, Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee, Sherfane Rutheford, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, Dasun Shanaka

Only 2 of Gujarat Titans’ 7 players had left India: Buttler and Coetzee. And both have returned. However, Buttler and Rabada will leave by the end of the group stage after being called by their national teams.

LSG: Markram selected for WTC Final

  • Matthew Breetzke, David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Shamar Joseph

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) only have 2 players who might not return or go back early. Markram has made South Africa’s squad for the WTC Final 2025 and might be asked to return by May 26. Shamar Joseph might stay back.

  • Shimron Hetmyer, Lhuan-dre Pretorious, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer (out), Nandre Burger, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kwena Maphaka, Maheesh Theekshana

Archer won’t return due to injury concerns, but all the others are available.
