Ramakrishna Ghosh finally ended his long wait to make his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as CSK decided to hand him an opportunity in the game against Mumbai Indians on Saturday. The youngster from Maharashtra was bought by the five-time champions for Rs 30 lakhs in the IPL 2025 mega auction following which he was retained before IPL 2026 as well. However, Ghosh warmed the bench throughout the IPL 2025 season and for the first half of the tournament in 2026 as well, before finally being handed his debut.
Who is CSK’s Ramakrishna Ghosh?
Ghosh made an instant impact on his arrival in the IPL, bagging the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav as his first scalp. The Indian T20I captain was caught out at the sweeper cover as he attempted a big hit but failed to get the distance. Ramakrishna, who has been a part of CSK for nearly two seasons now, celebrated his maiden IPL wicket by pointing towards the sky as SKY departed. Talking about the CSK vs MI game, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first in Chennai. They got off to an electrifying start in the powerplay but then lost wickets in quick succession, with Ghosh being one of the wicket-takers.
The Maharashtra all-rounder made his List A and T20 debut in 2023 and 2022 respectively and has grown leaps and bounds over the years. He now has 21 wickets from 11 List A games while he has less superior numbers in T20s, with just 2 wickets from 9 games. However, Ghosh proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in terms of batting, having scored 246 runs from 11 List A matches, including a 73-run knock against Punjab in his first game of VHT 2025/26.
Ghosh has fared slightly better in red-ball cricket when compared to his prowess in the limited-overs formats but is a budding cricketer who is surely talented. Born on August 28, 1997, the 28-year-old is a right-handed fast bowling all-rounder. He is a regular for Maharashtra in all formats of the game in the recent past.
Ramakrishna Ghosh put CSK on notice last year with his 7-wicket haul against Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He finished with figures of 7/42 in 9.2 overs, which also happens to be his best in List A cricket.
