Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting has joined the Indian Premier League franchise just ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2024. DC will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, March 14.
The 49-year-old coach will be working closely with captain Rishabh Pant, who is set to return to competitive cricket after a hiatus of 14 months following a car accident in December 2022.
In a video shared by DC on X (formerly Twitter), Ponting was captured arriving at the team hotel amidst the backdrop of the tune ‘Wahi to ek sarva shaktiman hai’.

Ponting, who also serves as the head coach for Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket, aims to revitalize the fortunes of the Delhi Capitals after their disappointing performance last season.
Ponting’s arrival injects fresh energy and optimism into the Delhi Capitals camp as they gear up for the upcoming IPL season, with high hopes of achieving better results and making a mark in the tournament.
Under David Warner’s leadership, the Delhi-based team finished ninth in the points table, managing only five wins out of 14 games.
