Former India fast bowler Mohit Sharma will start his second career with the Southern Brave in The Hundred. The 37-year-old played 34 matches for India from 2013 to 2015, played 120 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and retired from all forms of cricket in December 2025.
Mohit Sharma starts coaching career
The GMR Group, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals (DC), have decided to send their head coach and director of cricket – Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao – from the IPL to The Hundred. Mohit has ties with DC, having played 8 matches for them in his last IPL season in 2025, and will travel to England to start his second career as the assistant fast bowling coach.
DC coaches move to The Hundred
For the unaware, the GMR Group acquired a 49% equity stake in the Southern Brave, with the remaining 51% held by Hampshire County Cricket Club. Unlike other new owners, they didn’t wish to rebrand the franchise, which came into existence in 2019.
The reason Badani and Rao will take over Southern Brave is because of the agreement between GMR and JSW, the other owner of DC, to take control of the IPL franchise for a 2-year period. GMR managed the team for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Now, it’s JSW’s turn.
JSW, which is owned by Parth Jindal, has already decided to bring Rishabh Pant back by trading Kuldeep Yadav to Lucknow Super Giants. It’s rumoured that Sourav Ganguly, who has been involved with DC since 2019 and recently made his debut as head coach of the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, will return in some capacity, and Yuvraj Singh will come into the fray as well.
